Jeg hoping to have another fast weekend

Three-time NHRA champion Jeg Coughlin returns to the Texas Motorplex as the
quickest and fastest Pro Stock driver in the 20-year history of the sport's
only all-concrete quarter-mile. Coughlin posted a stunning 6.774-second pass at
204.35 mph during the qualifying sessions of last year's event to secure the
No. 1 spot in the field. It was one of the highlights of the 45-time
national event winner's 2004 campaign.

"It was a great effort by the team, one we'd very mush like to duplicate
this weekend," Coughlin said. "Bob [Glidden, crew chief] called and he was
upbeat because they really found something with the engines and they look solid on
the dynos. It certainly has us all optimistic about the weekend.

"We've been four or five hundredths off the pace for awhile now. If we could
even cut that deficit in half and get it down to two hundredths or less
we'll really increase our odds for winning rounds. The adrenaline is pumping on
this team."

Coughlin has been the low qualifier two times in his numerous visits to
Dallas. Aside from last year's speedy jaunt, he also put the No. 1 by his name in
2000. The 35-year-old also has enjoyed strong race days in North Texas,
winning the event outright in 2002 and taking runner-up honors in his
championship season of 2000 and in 2003.

Currently Coughlin is ninth in the championship standings but could easily
move as high as sixth over the weekend, providing his Jeg's Mail Order Dodge
Stratus R/T delivers.

"We're going to hold nothing back," Coughlin said. "If there is a good side
to being out of championship contention it's that you can take chances and try
things during a race. Testing is always important but when you can race at a
national event and still test some things, like this new motor we have
coming, it's even better."
