Terry Borcheller - Virginia preview
Virginia
Terry Borcheller will be an experienced hand when he starts the Rolex Sports
Car Series race at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., on Sunday.
After racing the No. 15 CB Motorsports Pontiac-powered Riley Mk XI at
Watkins Glen International on Sept. 25 with only a brief warmup in the car,
this time he'll have a full race weekend to learn the car. Borcheller, of
Gainesville, Ga., will again drive with Hugo Guenette of Blainville, Qué.
"It will be good to have a weekend under my belt with the Riley," Borcheller
said. "At least I'll get a practice session before the race!"
points opportunity
Borcheller appreciates the opportunity to work with CB Motorsports
owner/driver Chris Bingham, who offered the ride when Borcheller's
full-season team, Bell Motorsports/Feeds the Need, had to miss two races due
to budget constraints. Because the 2005 season has been difficult,
Borcheller hasn't followed the championship chase he led – and won – two
years ago. He checked the driver points roster during the Watkins Glen race
weekend and discovered he is still one of the top series drivers.
"Chris wears two hats – he has an owner hat and a driver hat. For anybody
who enjoys driving, it's hard for them to get out of the car. It was great
driving for him at Watkins and I just hope we can better that performance
for him," Borcheller said.
"I'm also excited because it's keeping me in the points, being able to run.
I had not even considered the points until I had the opportunity to race at
Watkins Glen. I actually can finish in the top 10."
track fan
Borcheller is a big fan of Virginia International Raceway. He has won three
times on the 3.27-mile road course in three different car classes. "I
absolutely love this track, especially in a prototype," he said. "It's got a
lot of fast corners and it has a really good rhythm to it."
