“Domination” Bests Describes Taylor Racing at the Nissan Nationals After a lackluster performance at the final two rounds of the 2005 Lucas Oil CORR Pro-2 (Round 13-TG/Round 14 - 3rd place), Scott Taylor and the #1 Skyjacker Suspension BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 were looking to make a point. “The team put together its best effort, but we came up a little short. A couple of rare part failures in the stretch run for the championship gave our competition the opportunity to overtake us in the standings…. Staying in Chula Vista for the non-points Nissan Nationals we wanted to take home the top prize and go into the off-season on a high note,” commented Scott Taylor. The non-points high stakes Nissan Nationals event consisted of two rounds (one Saturday and one Sunday) of racing, with the finish determined by the total number of points from both rounds. The winner of the Pro-2 division receives $25,000. Friday Practice Scott went out Friday afternoon for the day’s practice session and recorded the fastest laps in Pro-2. The BFGoodrich tires really hook up well going through the three infield banked high-speed corners. Saturday – Opening Round At the morning driver’s meeting, race officials announced that laps 10 and 11 would be run under full caution allowing for teams to make any changes or adjustments and position the field closer together for a final five lap shootout. The land rush start saw Scott getting the hole shot with Evans and Renezeder on his back bumper. On lap 3 Evans bobbled and the next three trucks in line moved up. Renezeder was applying the pressure to Scott, but the Roush Performance engine never missed a beat and kept the #1 Skyjacker Suspension BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 out in front. As the track went green, Scott stayed out front as the next four fought for position. At the finish Scott Taylor came across first, followed by Probst, Evans, and McGrath. Sunday – Final Round After a really cool opening ceremony honoring all those in the military serving our country, the Pro-2 trucks lined up for the final dash for cash. Once again Scott grabbed the lead as his Skyjacker engineered suspension allowed him to hold his line going through the extremely fast turn one. Once again Renezeder was second with Evans close by in third. The top three stayed in the same order through the mandatory caution period. On lap 12 Renezeder rolled trying to make a move on Scott. This put Evans in the second spot. The last four laps Scott stayed out front and came home the winner of the round and the Pro-2 Champion for the event. Along with the $25,000 first prize, Scott was awarded an additional $2000 bonus from Mastercraft Seats for winning both rounds. “After last weekend we wanted show everyone that Taylor Racing never gives up. Lady luck was always on our side this year. Taking the win at the Nissan Nationals was just what the doctor ordered. My crew chief Dick Rohda, and chief engineer Russ Wernimont didn’t let the team get down after losing the championship. We prepped the truck early in the week and then spent some time relaxing in the San Diego area. It really helped us put everything in perspective, and create a new focus for this weekend….
