Sunbelt Software Announces Upgrade to CounterSpy; New version 1.5 delivers improved spyware removal, general enhancements

CLEARWATER, Fla.--Oct. 3, 2005--Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security solutions, today announced the release of an upgrade to its award-winning antispyware solution, CounterSpy(TM). The new version 1.5 delivers several improvements to the existing version, including improved spyware removal and new user options for custom scanning.

Improved spyware scanning and removal

The new version delivers "under-the-hood" improvements in spyware removal. CounterSpy's scanning engine incorporates Sunbelt's new DNR(TM) (Do Not Resuscitate) technology which significantly improves the chances of killing spyware "resuscitators" (components of spyware programs that don't allow the spyware to be completely removed from a system).

New scanning options

A number of improvements have been made in the user scanning interface, including a default to automatically run a "Full System" spyware scan; a new choice for scanning .zip files; and the ability to exclude "low risk" programs.

A number of additional enhancements

This CounterSpy upgrade also includes general improvements to Active Protection, Windows 98SE and ME compatibility and the program's user interface.

Pricing, availability and system requirements

A 15-day trial version of CounterSpy is available on Sunbelt Software's website at www.sunbelt-software.com. The price for purchase is $19.95 and includes one year of spyware definition updates and software upgrades. Annual subscriptions are available for subsequent updates.

The upgrade to version 1.5 is free to all existing customers of CounterSpy who have a current subscription plan.

CounterSpy works with Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP and requires a minimum Internet connection speed of 28.8 Kbps. Minimum hardware requirements Pentium II Processor with 64MB of RAM and 24MB of free hard disk space. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher also required.
