McClenathan out early at Route 66 Raceway
JOLIET, Ill. (October 2, 2005) - Engine problems caused an early exit
for Cory McClenathan, who drives the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Top
Fuel dragster, at the fifth annual NHRA Ameriquest Mortgage Nationals at
Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.
Based on qualifying results, McClenathan, who qualified No. 2 with a
pass of 4.466 seconds, had a big advantage over Tim Cullinan, who
qualified in the 15th spot with a run of 4.660 seconds. But that was
all for naught as McClenathan's engine failed him on this run.
"We dropped the cylinders on the right side of the engine, as all could
see," said crew chief Todd Smith. "We know we definitely had a
problem. Right now we don't know the cause but if I had to make an
educated guess I would say it was ignition related. We'll examine the
entire engine and electrical system and have the FRAM AirHog dragster
ready to go next weekend at Dallas."
NEXT RACE: Three races remain on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Cory Mac and the Carrier Boyz Racing team move straight to Dallas for
the 20th annual NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol
Syntec. This is a make up race as Hurricane Rita forced a postponement
when the event was original schedule. The event will be contested next
weekend, Oct.6-9. Pro qualifying will be Fri. and Sat., Oct. 7 and 8,
with final eliminations for all classes on Sun., Oct. 9.
TELEVISION: ESPN2 will air three hours of same-day television coverage
of eliminations for the NHRA Ameriquest Mortgage Nationals beginning at
8 p.m. this evening (Sunday, Oct. 2). The elimination show repeats on
ESPN2 Thursday morning, Oct. 13, from 3 until 5 a.m. Television times
are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local
listings.
