NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals-Friday from Texas Motorplex

BUSY TEXAS MOTORPLEX HOSTS SUMMIT RACING SERIES FINALS

            ENNIS, Texas - The top NHRA Summit Racing Series competitors in
NHRA's South Central Division took to the strip at Texas Motorplex in the
first of a three-day competition that will culminate in a team championship
and individual winners in six classes.  Individual winners in Super Pro,
Pro, Quick, Street and Motorcycle are running for a share of the purse worth
nearly $26,000 and a chance go head-to-head against the champions from
NHRA's other six regional divisions for a national championship.  Racers in
the High School category will compete for trophies.

            Time trials started today at the Texas Motorplex and will
continue Saturday at 9 a.m.  Eliminations for all classes will begin
Saturday afternoon and continue Sunday at 9 a.m.  Gates at Texas Motorplex
open at 8 a.m. each day.    For more information call the track, (972)

            Drivers who advance to the national title run-off will compete
at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in
November.  (The winners in Super Pro and Pro have a runoff to determine who
will compete in Pomona.)  Those who compete in Pomona will each receive
$3,500 and the champions in each class will earn a winner-take-all $5,000
purse.
