SILVER CROWN EXHIBITION SET FOR OCT. 7 AT KANSAS
INDIANAPOLIS – An exhibition will be held next Friday for the new generation
Silver Crown Series cars at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway in Kansas City,
Kan. during the fourth weekend of the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup.
Four cars are expected to be on hand to compete in Friday’s exhibition,
which will be sandwiched between two NASCAR Nextel Cup Series practices.
Cars constructed at Riley Technologies, Stealth Motorsports and Devin Racing
Chassis will be at the track.
Highlighting the list of drivers expecting to take part in the exhibition is
Dave Steele, who last Saturday claimed his second straight USAC Silver Crown
Series driving title. Steele, who has yet to drive any of the new cars, will
pilot the prototype Riley developed and unveiled last December at the
Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis.
USAC Silver Crown veterans Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. and Aaron Fike of
Galesburg, Ill. will also participate as will Pablo Donoso of Santiago,
Chile, who took 19 laps in the recently purchased Riley chassis, which is
now co-owned by Indianapolis 500 veteran Eliseo Salazar and longtime USAC
participant Johnny Vance. Tyler is scheduled to drive the Stealth machine –
owned by Rodney Weesner – while Fike will employ a Foxco engine in the Devin
chassis.
Fike is also expected to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series race Oct. 8.
“This will be a substantial opportunity to showcase the excitement of a USAC
race at one of America’s finest and greatest racing venues during the
weekend’s most significant racing event,” said Rollie Helmling, USAC
President and CEO.
Much preparation has been made to conduct next week’s exhibition, including
tire and setup tests last week at Kansas and in March at Homestead-Miami
Speedway in Florida. Test drivers Jason McCord of Anderson, Ind. and Jay
Drake of Val Verde, Calif. will be among several competitors at the test
next week, lending their knowledge of the cars.
Two 30-minute test and tuneup sessions will be held next Thursday. Several
car owners are also expected to see the exhibition in person, while other
drivers may take laps in Thursday’s practice.
