OSW Technical Documentation Selects Inmedius S1000D Tools; Publishing Software Supports Mobile Field Hospitals for German Army
PITTSBURGH--Sept. 29, 2005--Inmedius, Inc., a leading provider of technical documentation solutions to defense and capital equipment intensive industries, announced that OSW Technical Documentation, a publications house located in Munich, Germany, has chosen Inmedius ASD S1000D standard based software to support the deployment of manuals for military mobile field hospitals in Kosovo and Afghanistan by the German Army. ASD S1000D is an international specification for the procurement and production of technical publications.OSW will deliver description, operation and maintenance, repair and overhaul, and Illustrated Parts Data (IPD) technical documentation for the army mobile hospitals. The 26 structures of the German mobile field hospital project is OSW's first specification application utilizing Inmedius S1000DauthorPro(TM) and S1000Dmanager(TM) publishing software. Mobile field hospitals provide medical resources for the military, non-government organizations and civilian populations in reconstruction zones. These mobile structures have a very complex infrastructure that includes mechanical functions, IT, communications, electricity, heating and cooling, water, and medical gases that must be described and modeled both before and after deployment in order to manage and support S1000D requirements.
"In our business there is no room for error. Inmedius provides a comprehensive S1000D solution that improves production processes and enhances the quality of our offerings, while reducing costs," stated Christian Ruck, Manager, ASD S1000D Implementation Team, OSW. "By using the Inmedius S1000D Publishing Suite we are able to reuse a lot of information which helps us work efficiently."
"Managing Data Modules (DM) and S1000D processes is technically and economically not feasible without a Common Source Data Base (CSDB)," explained Ruck. "The Inmedius CSDB solution provides transparency in managing a large quantity of DM's and is able to support the import of a Data Module Requirements List (DMRL) structure from a Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) application to populate the required Meta Data. Inmedius makes it very easy to reuse and manage DM's in more than one DMRL, and in multiple projects. The mobile hospital project has 170 DM's times 26 units, with 40% being able for reuse in other structures. Inmedius' integration of the LSA application is key to improving our production processes and reducing expenses."
"Inmedius is proud to be a part of this important project," explained Michael Ingledew, Managing Director, Inmedius UK. "OSW recognized the key benefits of our web-based, integrated S1000D Publishing Suite solution including; structured project overview, illustration and reference management tools, and applicability for land, air and sea implementations, based upon Inmedius' long established expertise in serving US and European military forces."
