Association of International Automobile Manufacturers Announces Retirement of Long-time General Counsel and Selection of Successor
ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 28 -- The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. (AIAM)* today announced the retirement of Charles H. Lockwood II, Vice President and General Counsel, effective October 1, 2005. Lockwood has overseen all legal activities of AIAM for the past 23 years, managing AIAM's litigation activities as well as providing antitrust counsel and strategic advice to the organization and its members. He is a recognized authority on laws and regulations dealing with vehicle emissions, fuel economy, safety and dealer franchise matters. AIAM President and CEO Timothy MacCarthy noted that "Mr. Lockwood will be dearly missed as both a friend and colleague. The 'can do spirit' and legal expertise with which he embraced complex and controversial issues is broadly appreciated within the auto industry."
Lockwood's successor will be Ellen J. Gleberman. Previously, Gleberman was Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA). For over 15 years, she oversaw the legal and public affairs activities of Mitsubishi Motors. This included its sales division and finance subsidiary in California, its manufacturing division in Illinois, its Canadian sales subsidiary in Toronto and its R&D company based in Michigan. In 2000, Automotive News selected Gleberman as one of the "100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry." Mr. MacCarthy said, "Ms. Gleberman is widely respected in the auto industry for her legal talents and will be an excellent addition to the AIAM staff."
