Sloan wins Super Stock again, increases point lead
Sloan wins again, increases point lead
By less about a millionth of a second, Jimmy Sloan, 24, Palm
Desert, Calif. won the Super Stock race at Irwindale Speedway
Saturday night in the Scott Ruder Mortgage Lending Chevy.
Bryan Harrell, who led the majority of the race, looked to win when
a collision occurred, causing the race to end in a green, white,
checker finish. Sloan was in second place, after qualifying with
fast time and starting the race forth. When the green flag flew
Harrell and Sloan raced hard for two laps.
When they crossed the finish line, no one was sure of the outcome
as they appeared neck and neck. Officials measured the
transponders within the cars and found that Sloan won by 0.00009
seconds.
“It was the closest finish I have ever seen,” said Kathy Sloan,
Sloan’s mother. “Harrell and Jimmy both drove amazingly.”
With the win, Sloan now has an 18-point lead over second place
Robin Bourgeois.
There is one remaining points race at Irwindale Speedway for the
Super Stocks. It is a double points race on October 8.
This is Sloan’s second season racing the Ruark Racing super stock.
Next season he plans to race the Ruark Racing late model as a
rookie.
