Taylor Racing Finishes 3rd in CORR Pro-2 Championship

Going into the final weekend of racing of the Lucas Oil CORR series, Scott Taylor was determined to retain the CORR Pro-2 championship. With all the teams heading to the new venue at the Otay Ranch in Chula Vista, California, anything could happen. The first time event also meant that Taylor, Renezeder and Vandenhuvel were given a level playing field to compete for the championship.

Scott Taylor and his #1 Skyjacker Suspension BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 Pro-2 truck arrived at the Otay Ranch race facility a couple of days early to get a good feel for the competition and the new track. After Friday’s practice the team felt confident.

Round 13
Saturday’s race ended quickly for Scott Taylor. Going into the second turn of the first lap, the oil warning light came on. The culprit was a broken oil pump drive mandrel. This instantly stopped the flow of oil through the engine. Scott quickly shut everything down and his bid for a record seventh CORR Pro-2 championship was over. Carl Renezeder went on to finish fourth and combined with Scott’s first lap departure, enabled Renezeder to clinch the 2005 Pro-2 Championship.

“Heading into the final two rounds of racing, I knew we had a shot at the championship. Unfortunately a part we manufactured for the truck when it was first built several years ago broke. Congratulations to Carl, he a great competitor and great ambassador for CORR.” – noted Scott Taylor.

Round 14
The final round of racing for the 2005 season began with Scott using all the horsepower the Roush Performance engine offered, got the hole shot and lead the first eleven laps. On lap 10 the left rear tire went flat. This allowed Renezeder to take the lead on lap 12. Then the right rear tire went down as well. On the white flag lap Vandenhuvel made the pass for second place. Heading for the finish, with two shredded rear tires, Steve Barlow caught Scott at the flag, giving Scott a fourth place finish. After the round, the race officials penalized Renezeder for passing under the yellow.

This made the official order of finish: first–Vandenhuvel, second–Barlow, and third-Scott Taylor.

“ We knew this season was going to be tough. New competitors, new “spec” sized tires and a new track to compete on… always-new challenges. Competing with our “non-standardized” chassis truck was our biggest challenge. On the tighter tracks, we never quite got the chassis setup the way we really like it. The new tire rule and the weight penalties that our non-“standardized” chassis truck was given created some of the handling issues. In the off-season a new “standardized” truck will be built, and we look forward to competing for the 2006 championship,” commented Scott Taylor after the race.

There’s still one race left at the Otay Ranch, the Nissan Nationals, on October 1 – 2. This non-points high stakes race pays $25,000 to the winner of Pro-2.
