PERRIS HOSTS CRA SPRINTS AGAIN SATURDAY
12 WINS, 18 FQs FOR PHOENIX WINNER GARDNER
The ongoing battle for the 2005 Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car
Championship continues this Saturday night at the Perris (Calif.) Auto
Speedway, featuring the duel between defending series titlist Rip Williams
and points runner-up Damion Gardner, separated by only 20 points.
Gardner posted his 12th feature victory of the season Saturday
night at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz., taking the lead from Josh
Ford three laps from the end and leading to the checkered flag to beat
Ford, Danny Sheridan, Troy Rutherford and Jeremy Sherman. Gardner was also
the fastest qualifier for the 18th time this season in his Temecula Valley
Pipe & Supply/Arizona Race Mart Eagle/Shaver!
J. Hicks led the first five laps, Sheridan led for 17, then
Ford led five before yielding to Gardner.
Shon Deskins suffered a fractured rib in a flip during
Saturday night's feature.
A total of 74 points are available at Perris Saturday and Cory
Kruseman, with five previous Perris victories this year, hopes to enhance
his third-place ranking. He trails Williams by 109.
