RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Plenty of NASCAR Action
Moorpark, Calif. - (September 26, 2005) Dover International Speedway was
exceptionally good to Ryan Newman this past weekend. He sat on both the Busch
and Bud Poles in the NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup Series’ and also brought
home a win in one of the series.
On Saturday, Newman dominated the Busch Series’ Dover 200, leading 193 of
200 laps, to capture his fourth Busch win of the season.
Sunday’s MBNA RacePoints 400 didn’t give him a win, but brought him a fifth
place finish in the second race in the Chase for the Championship.
Newman holds a steady third in Nextel Cup points.
His Penske Racing South teammate, Rusty Wallace, posted a third place finish
at Dover and jumped up two points in points to second place ahead of
Newman.
The third Penske Racing teammate of Travis Kvapil had one of his better
weekends in recent weeks.
Kvapil started in the 13th starting position when the green flag dropped and
came home 21st. when the checkers flew.
The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the
UAW-Ford 500 next weekend, while the Busch Series takes a break from racing until
October 8.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Ringers supporting team of Orleans
Racing didn’t have lady luck on their side in the Las Vegas 350 on Saturday
night.
Jasper Engines & Transmissions No. 77 driver Brendan Gaughan was involved in
a wreck early on and ended up retiring his Dodge for the night with an
engine failure.
The story wasn’t much different for his teammate Steve Park and his No. 62
Orleans Hotel & Casino Dodge. Park made it a little over halfway in the race
before parking his truck with engine problems as well.
The Truck Series also has some time off before heading to Martinsville
Speedway in Martinsville, Va., on October 22 for the Kroger 200.
