Exide Awarded Supply Contract for Project Rakel in Sweden; Communications Network is Being Created to Link Swedish Public Safety Organizations
ALPHARETTA, Ga.--Sept. 26, 2005--Exide Technologies (www.exide.com), a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, announced today that it has been selected to supply back-up batteries for a new radio communications network that will link police, fire and other emergency personnel across Sweden.Project RAKEL (Radio Communication for Efficient Public Safety) - being led by the Saab-Nokia-Swedish Networks consortium - will use Marathon(R) front terminal batteries for uninterruptible power supply. The batteries will be produced at Exide's plant in Castanheira, Portugal. The first shipments are expected to be made before the end of the year.
