CHEESEMAN, HACK LEAD QUALIFIERS AT NATIONAL TRAIL RACEWAY
HEBRON, Ohio - The first rounds of qualifying are complete at
National Trail Raceway's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The race
is the last of six on the North Central Division schedule and drivers will
vie for valuable home-division points leading to divisional and national
championships.
In the Top Alcohol Funny Car class, Galena resident Chuck Cheeseman is the
No. 1 qualifier. The veteran racer made a 5.811-second, 252.52 mph pass to
take the lead. Greenup, Ill., driver Kim Fritts is in second place with a
5.898-second, 247.57 mph effort.
Valparaiso's Ray Hack set the pace in Top Alcohol Dragster. His
5.381-second, 267.96 mph pass eclipsed the contingent of 17 Dragster that
are running to make the eight-car qualifying field. Jeff Bohr of Plymouth,
Mich., is the No. 2 qualifier with a 5.429-second, 263.92 mph pass.
Ronnie Davis, Suwanee, Ga., heads up Top Sportsman qualifying with a
6.705-second run at 209.65 mph in his '65 Corvette. Delaware resident Troy
Coughlin is the second-place qualifier in Top Sportsman. He drove his '05
Cavalier to a 6.714-second, 206.95 mph pass.
In other racing action, competitors are also running final rounds of
eliminations from the division's last event in Bowling Green, Ky., which was
rained out. Elimination rounds for that event are being run in conjunction
with qualifying and time trails.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at National Trail Raceway.
Final eliminations for Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas
and Super Street are scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. and first round of eliminations for those classes will start at 2
p.m. Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman will qualify at noon and 4 p.m.
Saturday and Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run at 1
and 5 p.m. Eliminations will continue Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol
Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.
Tickets, including pit pass, are $15 each day. Children 6 to 12
years old are $5 each day and kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid
adult.
National Trail Raceway is approximately 20 miles east of
Columbus on old U.S. Highway 40, one mile north of Interstate 70 at the
Kirkersville exit. From Columbus, take I-70 to Highway 158 North and follow
the signs, or take I-70 to Highway 37 North to U.S. Highway 40 and follow
