Kum & Go Fuels High Gas Price Relief
Four Tankers - 32,800 Gallons of Gas - Given to Four Lucky Customers
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 23 -- Soaring gas prices no longer mean much to four lucky winners in Kum & Go's "Keep on Truckin'" gas giveaway. Four 8,200 gallons (four full tanker trucks) of gas were given away by Kum & Go convenience stores on September 23, 2005 at a special winner's presentation event in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The following Kum & Go customers won't have to pay for gas for the next five years:
-- Jeanette Chance, Fordland, Mo., 47, middle school building secretary -- Lloyd Reeder, Atlantic, Iowa, 59, research associate -- Ida Gerber, Omaha, Neb., 44, accounting office worker -- Shirley Reekers, Fort Dodge Iowa, 47, post office letter carrier
"I'm a single mom on a tight budget so this is a blessing for my family," says Jeanette Chance, winner. Winner Lloyd Reeder continued, "I travel 160 miles a day for work so this is going to help us immensely."
"When we envisioned this promotion we never imagined gas would reach $3.00 per gallon," says Kum & Go convenience store CEO Kyle Krause. "This is a significant prize; having free gas for five years is like winning the lottery."
The national average for a gallon of gas has risen 73 cents in the past year. Estimated value of the prize is $24,263. This is enough money to pay for 6,704 gallons of milk, 9,840 loaves of bread, 40-years of cell phone bills (at an average of $50 a month) nearly a 20-year supply of diapers and, well, 585 tanks of gas (based on 14-gallon gas tank).
Nearly two million entries were collected from all 425 Kum & Go locations throughout 13 states. "The response to this promotion has been phenomenal. People have been excited about the opportunity to win," says Krause.
Interesting Facts: -- You could travel 180,400 miles (avg. 22 miles per gallon) with 8,200 gallons of gas. That's enough to travel from New York to Los Angeles 65 times. -- You could take seven trips around the world (avg. 22 miles per gallon). -- It takes 420 barrels of oil to make 8,200 gallons of gasoline. -- Experts predict gasoline prices could reach as much as $4.00 per gallon in the next few years. -- Including inflation, gas prices are not at an all time high. During the oil crisis of the 1970s gas averaged $3.09 per gallon compared to $2.60 today.
The promotion was open to Kum & Go customers who are residents in one of the 13 states in which Kum & Go operates, including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Colorado, Arkansas, Wyoming and Wisconsin. Winner's names were drawn on September 5, 2005 and the winner's were informed via phone on September 15, 2005.
