Chery Cars Inland Distribution System Complete, Will Change U.S. Name

Washington DC September 22, 2005; The AIADA newsletter reported that Visionary Vehicles CEO Malcolm Bricklin announced yesterday that Distribution Auto Service (DAS) will handle the North American ports of entry processing and transportation of all Visionary Vehicle cars in North America.

Visionary Vehicles plans to begin importing an annual volume of 250,000 Chery cars from Wuhu, China commencing mid 2007, with hopes of opening 250 dealerships across the country.

Meanwhile, GM’s continued threat to sue Chery on account that their name sounds too much like “Chevy,” will cause the automaker to change their name in the U.S., reports the Free Press.

Visionary Vehicles spokeswoman Wendi Tush said her company decided not to fight GM because “they’re bigger than we are and they have more lawyers than we do. It’s all about keeping value to the consumer." Tush added that the company is considering five or six other names and hopes to announce one soon.
