O.C. Tanner Honors Cendant Car Rental Group with New Employee Recognition Award

NEW YORK--Sept. 22, 2005--O.C. Tanner Recognition Company, the world's leading provider of employee recognition solutions, today announced that it has honored the Cendant Car Rental Group with the first-ever Carrot Culture Award.

Each year, the Carrot Culture Award will be given to an organization that exemplifies outstanding use of rewards and recognition to create a workplace culture that is productive and profitable. The Carrot Culture Award is based on the best-selling business books, "The 24-Carrot Manager" and "A Carrot A Day," co-authored by Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton. The books outline the use of "carrots," or rewards and recognition, to boost overall productivity, and ultimately the bottom line.

Cendant Car Rental Group, which operates Budget Rent A Car and Avis Rent A Car, received the Carrot Culture Award for demonstrating exceptional results and return on investment for its recognition program. Mark Servodidio, executive vice president of human resources, accepted the award on behalf of Cendant Car Rental Group.

"Studies illustrate that organizations with effective ways to recognize employee excellence perform significantly better than their competitors," said Kent Murdock, president and CEO of O.C. Tanner. "Cendant Car Rental Group has demonstrated a tremendous return on its investment in its employees and has set a standard for other companies to follow in people management. We are pleased to award them with the first-ever Carrot Culture Award."

The award was presented at "Creating a Carrot Culture - The Executive Recognition Summit" hosted by O.C. Tanner and Human Resource Executive magazine, held September 16 in New York City. More than 100 business leaders from the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom attended the Summit to discuss how meaningful employee recognition impacts the bottom line by positively affecting employee retention and attrition rates, employee productivity and leadership skills.

"Our efforts in rewarding and recognizing our employees are an important way we are making Cendant Car Rental Group, and Avis and Budget, a great place to work. The 'Carrot Culture' fits our strategic approach to managing human resources, and through recognition programs our employees are more productive, loyal and engaged," said Servodidio.

Keynote speakers at the Summit were Scott Northcutt, executive vice president of human resources at DHL Americas, and Robert Joyce, chairman and CEO of Westfield Group. A panel discussion facilitated by Andrew R. McIlvaine, an editor of Human Resource Executive magazine, included participants Ann Federici, senior vice president of human resources at The Auto Club Group; Eric Lange, senior vice president of VNU Media Measurement & Information Group; and Servodidio. Other presentations at the Summit were led by David Jackson, president and CEO of The Jackson Organization, Murdock, Gostick and Elton.
