Monaco Coach Ramps Up Production for Katrina Victims

RV Maker Manufacturing 50 Trailers a Day for FEMA

COBURG, Ore., Sept. 21 -- Monaco Coach Corporation , one of the nation's leading manufacturers of recreational and towable vehicles, will manufacture at least 2,000, and possibly up to 3,000, travel trailers to provide living quarters for hurricane victims. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking thousands of trailers to house evacuees and response workers.

The first FEMA trailers rolled off Monaco Coach Corporation's assembly line on September 14 at both the Elkhart and Wakarusa, Indiana manufacturing facilities. "Because of the flexibility of our modern facilities and a tremendous team effort on the part of our work force we were able to readjust production on our current manufacturing lines and ramp-up some idle capacity to accommodate FEMA's need," said Craig Wanichek, Monaco Coach spokesman. "We are currently building over 50 trailers a day."

"The goal is to help in any way possible and make sure the hurricane victims who need immediate housing are getting what they need," Wanichek said. "As a company we feel fortunate we can provide such immediate assistance and make a vital impact on these peoples' lives on their road to recovery."

The company reported that production of its Holiday Rambler and McKenzie brand travel trailers and fifth-wheels will continue. "Although towable run- rates have been modified on our existing production lines, capacity in our other plants and working overtime in our towable facility will ensure an adequate supply of towable units to our dealer partners," said Mike Snell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Headquartered in Coburg, Oregon, with additional manufacturing facilities in Indiana, Monaco Coach Corporation is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles. The company offers a full line of recreational vehicles from entry-level priced towables up to custom-made luxury models under the Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Safari, Beaver, McKenzie brand names.
