POWERade Championship Points and Ringers Gloves Battle

After the completion of the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals (Sept. 16-18) at 
Maple Grove Raceway just outside Reading, Penn., the following reflect 
the point status (Championship and Bonus) of Chip Ellis and Matt Smith:

_*2005 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle point standing:

*_*Ellis No. 6 after Reading, Smith No. 12

*Two races remain on this year's NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series 
schedule for Pro Stock Motorcycle, with a maximum of 276 points 
available.  Or said another way, any Pro Stock Motorcycle competitor who 
is more than 276 points behind the leader cannot win the championship.
 
With a semifinal round appearance at Reading, Ellis, who rides the G 
Squared/S&S Buell is now No. 6 in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle 
Championship point standings.  He now has 751 points, 215 points behind 
the leader Andrew Hines.

After his second race for G Squared Motorsports, Smith, aboard the 
G2/Red Line Oil/Torco Racing Fuels/Skull Gear Buell with power supplied 
by S&S Cycles, left Reading No. 12 in the point standings.  He now has 
accumulated 523 points and is 443 points behind Hines and 120 out of the 
top ten.

*Points system for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series:* There is a 
maximum of 138 points available in each professional category at each 
national event.  Competitors in the four professional categories (Top 
Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle) earn points at the 
23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events (15 events for Pro 
Stock Motorcycle) as follows: Qualifying Position: No. 1 (8 points); No. 
2 (7); No. 3 (6); No. 4 (5); Nos. 5-6 (4); Nos.7-8 (3); Nos. 9-12 (2); 
and Nos. 13-16 (1).  The 16 qualifiers earn eliminations rounds points 
as follows: 100 points for winner of category; 80 points to the 
runner-up; 60 points to the semifinal round losers; 40 points to the 
quarterfinal round losers; and 20 points to first-round losers.  
Additional points are awarded as follows: 10 to all professional 
competitors in each professional category making at least one qualifying 
run during a national event and 20 to the professional competitor in 
each professional category that leaves that national event with the 
elapsed-time national record (which was set at that national event).

The top ten in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle point standings 
are: 1.) Andrew Hines (966 points); 2.) GT Tonglet (924 points: -42 
behind Hines); 3.) Angelle Sampey (817: -149); 4.) Antron Brown (815: 
-151); 5.) Ryan Schnitz (786: -180); 6.) Chip Ellis (751: -215); 7.) 
Karen Stoffer (695: -271); 8.) Gino Scali (686: -280); 9.) Steve Johnson 
(659: -307); and 10.) Craig Treble (643: -323).

2006 Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle:

*_*Smith No. 2, Ellis third

*Chip Ellis took his S&S-powered Buell to a runner-up position at the 
2005 Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle, which was held over last Labor Day 
weekend at Indy in conjunction with the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors started earning qualifying points for 
the 2006 Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle at the 2005 Mac Tools U.S. 
Nationals.  The 2006 Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle will be contested as 
a special bonus event during the prestigious 2006 Mac Tools U.S. 
Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park.  The eight riders who accumulate 
the most qualifying points during the 15-race Ringers Gloves Pro Bike 
Battle series, which concludes at the 2006 O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South 
Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, earns a berth in the Ringers 
Gloves Pro Bike Battle

*Points system for the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle:* Riders earned 
points for the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle based on their qualifying 
position at the 15 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series events that feature 
Pro Stock Bike competition. Each position is worth the following points: 
No. 1 - 175; No. 2 - 165; No. 3 - 155; No. 4 - 145; No. 5 - 140; No. 6 - 
135; No. 7 - 130; No. 8 - 125; No. 9 - 120; No. 10 - 115; No. 11 - 110; 
No. 12 - 105; No. 13 - 100; No. 14 - 95; No. 15 - 90; No. 16 - 85.

The top eight qualifiers for the 2006 Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle 
are: 1.) Andrew Hines (350 points); 2.) Matt Smith (320); 3.) Chip Ellis 
(295); 4.) Tie: Antron Brown and Angelle Sampey (285 each); 6.) GT 
Tonglet (280); 7.) Ryan Schnitz (270); 8.) Steve Johnson (255).


_*NEXT RACE:

*_The next event for Chip Ellis, Matt Smith and G Squared Motorsports is 
the NHRA AC Delco Las Vegas Nationals at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor 
Speedway, which unfolds October 22-25, the 14th of 15 national events 
for Pro Stock Motorcycles on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.  
Professional qualifying begins on Oct. 23 and concludes on Oct. 24, with 
two qualifying sessions each day.  Eliminations are scheduled for 
Sunday, Oct. 25.
