Modine Selects SEEBURGER to Supply EDI System & SAP XI Services; Tight Integration with SAP Platform Will Simplify IT Infrastructure
SEEBURGER Technology Will Replace Legacy System at All 17 Modine Plants in U.S.
ATLANTA, Sept. 20 -- SEEBURGER Inc. today announced an agreement to supply its Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) technology and SAP-based implementation services to all 17 North American locations of Modine Manufacturing Company , a Tier 1 supplier of thermal heat transfer products to the automotive, truck, industrial and off-highway vehicle markets, as well as the electronics cooling and the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) market. Modine will replace its legacy EDI system with SEEBURGER B2B Gateway adapters embedded in the SAP NetWeaver(TM) technology stack, supporting Modine's ongoing global migration to SAP and its use of the SAP(R) Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) component of the NetWeaver platform.
Modine is switching EDI platforms in conjunction with the pending rollout of SAP R/3's Sales and Distribution, Material Management and Production Planning modules in North America. The company tapped SEEBURGER as its EDI solution provider because of its seamless integration with SAP, 19-year EDI experience with over 3,000 automotive organizations, and SAP XI deployment expertise. The SEEBURGER XI Adapters will simplify Modine's IT infrastructure by eliminating the need for an additional stand-alone EDI system.
SEEBURGER's SAP XI Global Practice will provide both SAP XI and EDI deployment services, including baseline XI and EDI adapter installation as well as message configuration enabling Modine to exchange transaction documents with over 100 suppliers and nearly 25 vehicle manufacturers in North America ranging from DaimlerChrysler to Caterpillar and John Deere. SEEBURGER consultants also performed the initial assessment of Modine's current integration architecture that led to the project blueprint and the final decision to implement SAP XI.
The first Modine plant is scheduled to go live with the new EDI system in May 2006, with a plant-by-plant rollout scheduled to run through early 2008. When fully deployed, the system is expected to process at least 1,000 EDI transactions a day.
"Everything in our due diligence pointed to SEEBURGER as the logical choice for our EDI upgrade, from the depth of their automotive experience and their platform's tight integration with SAP to their ability to supply SAP XI consulting services," said Kurt Kaestner, Manufacturing, Engineering & Distribution Systems Manager of IT for Modine. "This is a mission-critical deployment for us, and having a partner like SEEBURGER will help ensure a smooth migration."
SAP Integration Benefits
SEEBURGER was hand-picked by SAP several years ago to provide global EDI and B2B industry solutions for SAP XI, based on a 10-year partnership with more than 1,200 joint customers. As a result, SEEBURGER's EDI adapters are integrated in the SAP NetWeaver technology stack via SAP's "JCA Framework" (Java Connectivity Architecture). This has a variety of benefits for the end user.
First, the use of standard adapters reduces implementation time and costs. Second, business documents can be converted from industry standards into the XML/SOAP-based format used by SAP NetWeaver using the XI toolsets, eliminating the need for EDI configuration, workflow, mapping and communications to be handled by a separate EDI system. Third, the adapters accommodate all industry and regional-specific data standards and communications protocols, permitting use by organizations in virtually every industry sector and global geographic location.
SEEBURGER's close working relationship with SAP also has yielded more than 50 global SAP XI implementations by the SEEBURGER consulting team for firms such as HUGO BOSS, SPAR and SupplyOn. This gives SAP clients access to over three years of lessons learned, installation best practices, and a global B2B/EDI business content repository to further ensure a sustainable and cost-effective implementation.
"This contract with Modine again demonstrates the value of our SAP integration strategy and SAP XI consulting services for organizations that are standardizing on the SAP NetWeaver platform," said Scott Lewin, President of SEEBURGER North America. "The fact that our adapters are embedded in the SAP solution eliminates the complications of integrating a secondary system alongside of SAP XI, along with associated administrative overhead and potential points of failure. At the same time, our SAP XI deployment experience is unmatched by any other integration vendor, and that is an important benefit for anyone implementing this new technology."
