Midas' U.S. comparable shop retail sales increased about 2.6 percent for the first two months of the third quarter, compared to an increase of 2.5 percent in the second quarter of 2005. The company said that retail sales appear to have softened in early September following Hurricane Katrina. Twelve Midas shops in Louisiana and Mississippi remain closed.
"As Midas completes its exit from the exhaust business, we have repositioned the company as a lean franchisor to support the profitable growth of the Midas system," Feldman said. "Our customers have responded very positively to our expansion of services into maintenance and tires at Midas shops."
Midas is one of the world's largest providers of automotive service, offering brakes, maintenance, exhaust, steering and suspension services, as well as tires and batteries at more than 2,600 franchised, licensed and company-owned Midas shops in 19 countries, including 1,800 in the United States and Canada.
