WILLIAMS EXTENDS CRA LEAD WITH PAS VICTORY SERIES HEADS TO
MANZANITA SATURDAY
SEPTEMBER 19, 2005
Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. extended his lead in the
Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series points standings Saturday night at the
Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, winning the 30-lap feature on the half-mile
dirt oval. He heads for Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. for this
Saturday night's "Hall of Fame Vintage Classic" racing program on the
1/2-mile dirt oval with a 55-point lead over runner-up Damion Gardner in
defense of his 2004 series title.
Gardner won the last USAC/CRA Sprint race at Manzy, in May,
but Williams had a second and third in two April races there. Gardner was
20th in last Saturday's race at Perris.
Driving the John Jory Corporation/Weld Wheels Stinger/Shaver,
Williams passed Cory Kruseman on lap 21 and led the rest of the way to beat
Charles Davis Jr., Kruseman, Danny Sheridan and Mike Spencer.
A 30-lap feature tops the action at Phoenix, which will host
the Checker Auto Parts/Budweiser "Western World Championships" in November.
