RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Newman, Pedregon Capture First Wins of Their Seasons
Moorpark, Calif. - (September 19, 2005) Flyin’ Ryan Newman barely broke
the Top 10 last week to advance to the Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship
and this week at New Hampshire International Speedway he ended up in victory
lane at the end of the Sylvania 300.
Newman, protected with UnderX by Ringers, dove below Tony Stewart with two
laps to go to bring home his first win of the season.
His teammate Rusty Wallace also had a tremendous day. Wallace qualified
seventh and brought home yet another top-10 finish of the season, finishing
sixth.
Newman jumped up seven spots to third in Chase points to tie teammate
Wallace.
The second race in the Chase for the Championship heads to the “Monster Mile??
of Dover International Speedway next weekend for the MBNA NASCAR RacePoints
400.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series also took to the track for the Sylvania
200 on Saturday.
Both trucks of the Ringers supported team of Orleans Racing brought home
top-15 finishes.
Brendan Gaughan, driver of the No. 77 Jasper Engines & Transmissions Dodge
collected a 10th place finish, while his teammate Steve Park and his No. 62
Orleans Hotel & Casino Dodge finished 12th.
The Truck Series heads to Las Vegas, the base operations of Orleans Racing,
for the Las Vegas 350 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday.
The NHRA and its straight line racers returned to action at the Toyo Tires
NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway (Pa.) for the first time since the Mac
Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend.
New Orleans-area resident and U.S. Army Suzuki rider Angelle Sampey took on
up-and-coming Indiana rider Ryan Schnitz in Pro Stock Motorcycle finals.
Sampey and Schnitz had a close battle to start off, but Schnitz missed his
second to third gear change which allowed Sampey to drive off to the Winner’s
Circle for her second win of the season.
Pro Stock action witnessed Ringers racer and U.S. Nationals Champion Greg
Anderson take on Jim Yates, who failed to qualify for the U.S. Nationals.
Anderson spoiled Yates’ first final round in three years as he picked up his
third straight win (seventh of the season) 6.721/205.19 mph to 6.771/204.57
mph.
It was a U.S. Nationals match-up all over again in Top Fuel dragster with
two Ringers racers, Indy winner Larry Dixon and reigning POWERade Champ Tony
Schumacher, duking it out with a different outcome.
Shoe beat Dixon to the scoring light 4.498/323.74 mph to Dixon’s
4.575/322.11 mph.
Funny Car action saw 2003 Funny Car Champion and now his own team owner,
Tony Pedregon, take on his former boss, John Force, in finals.
Pedregon’s win comes only a couple weeks after a horrific starting line
accident at Indy that injured his crew chief Dickie Venables and engine builder
Cody Pendergrass. Both escaped with what should be considered minor injuries,
due to how the incident looked in person and on television.
While the speeds weren’t fast and the times weren’t quick, Ringers
supporter Pedregon outlasted and out pedaled his Q Racing Monte Carlo ride over his
old boss to the line, 6.349.191.02 mph to Force’s 8.339/125.82 mph run.
We at Ringers would like to congratulate TP and crew on overcoming the
obstacles and adversity from Indy and bringing home his first win as a car owner!
