Cory Mac sees red at Reading

MOHNTON, Penn. (September 18, 2005) - The color red was something that
Cory McClenathan, driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Top Fuel
dragster, didn't want to see during eliminations today at the NHRA Toyo
Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading.

In the opening round, the lane of choice was the left lane. McClenathan
used that lane to his advantage defeating Scott Kalitta. He stopped the
finish line clocks in 4.575 seconds, while Kalitta ran a 5.176.

In the quarterfinals, Doug Herbert had lane choice and he chose the
left, but it wasn't the lanes that mattered as Cory Mac fouled away his
chance at a win when he red-lighted. McClenathan missed a green by only
77 hundredths of a second.

"Doug (Herbert) had a performance advantage on us all weekend," said
McClenathan. "He ran a 54 (4.54 seconds) first round and we ran a 57.
As a result, we knew that we were going to have to push it some. I
staged deeper than normal, then pushed it too hard.

"The guys did a good job of getting the FRAM AirHog down that right
lane. Not too many cars were getting down that lane today. Just a
blink of the eye changed a holeshot win into a red light. The driver
just messed up. Soon we'll all come together as one and this Carrier
Boyz Racing team will start winning races."

Unofficially, as McClenathan moves to the next race in Dallas, he
remains eighth in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings with 962
points.

NEXT RACE: The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is in the homestretch
with just four races remaining. Cory Mac and the Carrier Boyz Racing
team move straight to Dallas for the second of three consecutive
weekends of racing. Next up is the 20th annual NHRA O'Reilly Fall
Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec, Sept. 22-25.

TELEVISION: ESPN2 will air three hours of same-day television coverage
of eliminations beginning at 4 p.m. this afternoon (Sunday, Sept. 18).
The elimination show repeats on ESPN2 early Friday morning, Sept. 23,
from 3 until 5 a.m. Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject
to change at anytime. Check local listings.
