Torrence, Harrington Lead Fields into Sunday's Eliminations

	NOBLE, Okla. - In the final rounds of qualifying Steve Torrence
held on to the No. 1 spot in Top Alcohol Dragster with a pass of 5.340
seconds at 258.32 mph for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder
in the Heartland at Thunder Valley Raceway Park.
Moore, Okla., racer Brandon Pierce qualified fifth behind Torrence with
a 5.525 second, 248.82 mph pass while James Thompson is second for
Sunday's eliminations at 5.355, 261.47.
Bernie Harrington out of Apple Valley, Calif., found some additional
horsepower in his Top Alcohol Funny Car jumping to the top of the field
with a 5.847 second run at 243.04 mph. Harrington is followed by Jimmy
Jones in second while Chickasha, Okla., racer Jackie Stidham is seventh
at 6.144 seconds, 188.12 mph. Ron Morrison of Oklahoma City landed in
ninth, failing to make the eight-car field with a best run of 6.508 at
221.72 mph.
Rick Freeman of Pauls Valley, Okla., is on top in Comp Eliminator in his
'04 Cavalier with a pass of 8.558 seconds, 0.582 seconds under the
index. Freeman is followed by Thomas Schmidt in second in his '34 Chevy.

Super Stock is led by Bob Dennis of Shorter, Ala., with local racer Rob
Cruzen of Cleveland, Okla., in second running 10.308 seconds, 1.092
under. Amy Faulk moved into the No. 1 position in Stock Eliminator with
Paula Cotton of Broken Arrow, Okla., in second. Faulk ran 10.863
seconds, 1.137 under the index while Cotton was 11.209, 1.091 seconds
under.
Other racers qualifying No. 1 and leading their fields were Rick Gentili
in Sportsman Motorcycle with a 0.000 perfect reaction time on his '83
Suzuki; Keith Raftery in the Sunset Racing Engines Top Sportsman with a
6.822 second, 204.91 mph pass; and John Garner in Top Dragster running
6.906 seconds at 194.09 mph.
Racing continues Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with round one of Top Alcohol
Dragster and Funny Car set for noon.  Gates open at 8 a.m. Tickets are
$10 for spectator grandstands and $20 with a pit pass.  For more
