Cory Mac places FRAM AirHog No. 6 at Reading

MOHNTON, Penn. (September 17, 2005) - For the 212th time in 280 races,
Cory McClenathan, placed the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Top Fuel
dragster in the top half of the qualifying ladder. McClenathan, from
Lake Havasu City, Ariz., qualified No. 6 for this weekend's NHRA Toyo
Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading, Penn.

In the opening session on Friday, McClenathan, had a good pass started
but dropped a cylinder early in the run, then lost a blower belt on the
top end, to finish with a pass of 4.676 seconds. In the evening
session, crew chief Todd Smith tuned McClenathan to a 4.568 second run
at over 327 mph, good for No. 5 after the first day of qualifying.

McClenathan returned on Saturday morning to reel off the quickest
elapsed time of the first session, covering the Maple Grove quarter-mile
in 7.553 seconds and followed that up with a 4.580 second in the final
session.

"I think we've got a consistent race car. I really do," said
McClenathan. "I think Todd (Smith, crew chief) and Bob (Bauer, clutch
specialist) are doing a great job, as is the entire crew. We'll have to
see where the chips fall tomorrow.

"Number six qualifier is not exactly where we wanted to be but it's
better than most of them out there and does give us lane choice going
into the opening round."

Cory Mac will face No. 11 qualifier Scoot Smith in tomorrow's first
round. The pair has met 29 times with McClenathan claiming 19 round wins.

BUDWEISER SHOOTOUT UPDATE: McClenathan entered qualifying for the Toyo
Tires Nationals No. 8 in the eight-car field for the Shootout with 2660
points, just 15 points behind David Grubnic and Scott Kalitta who are
tied for six. By qualifying sixth, McClenathan picked up 10 points on
Grubnic, who qualified eighth, and 25 points on Kalitta, who qualified
11th. This unofficially moves Cory Mac around Kalitta by 10 points and
into seventh. He now trails Grubnic, who remains sixth, by five
points. "We still got a couple of races (Dallas and Chicago) left
before qualifying plays out for the Budweiser Shootout, but we are
pleased with what we accomplished during qualifying here at Maple
Grove," said Cory Mac following today's final session of qualifying.
