New Chrysler CEO Reviews Operations in Taiwan

- Great Potential to Increase Chrysler Group Vehicles Sales in Taiwan - Local Production of Chrysler Town and Country Minivan on Schedule - Number of Chrysler Retail Outlets will Triple in Next Two Years

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Sept. 14 -- Just two weeks after starting his new role as President and CEO of the Chrysler Group, Tom LaSorda is reviewing the Company's operations in Taiwan, reinforcing its plans and commitment to the region.

"I believe there is tremendous potential to grow the brands of the Chrysler Group in Taiwan," said LaSorda. "We have embarked on a worldwide product offensive with some of the most eye-catching vehicles on the road anywhere, and are continuing to look for opportunities to make them available to our customers here."

Chrysler recently licensed China Motor Corporation (CMC) to build its best-in-class minivan in Taiwan, and is also creating a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler Taiwan and CMC to manage sales and distribution of Chrysler Group vehicles for the local market.

LaSorda reviewed the preparation of the minivan production at CMC's plant in Yangmei, and met with colleagues and executives at the new sales joint venture.

"Our partners at CMC are on track to begin producing Chrysler Group minivans next year at the high quality level our customers expect," said LaSorda, after seeing the first prototype minivan. "And through the new sales company, we expect to triple the number of Chrysler retail outlets over the next two years."

"The fact that Tom chose to visit Taiwan and CMC so early in his new role as CEO of the Chrysler Group underscores the importance of Chrysler's plans in Taiwan, and the expansion of the cooperation between CMC and DaimlerChrysler," said Mr. Kai Tai (Kenneth) Yen, Vice Chairman of CMC.

The Chrysler Group, which produces and markets Chrysler, Jeep(R) and Dodge brand vehicles, increased worldwide annual sales in August, marking its seventeenth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The company is undergoing its most ambitious product offensive, launching 25 new vehicles in three years. Its product lineup includes: the award winning Chrysler 300C, industry-leading Chrysler Voyager minivans with Stow 'n Go(TM) seating, and the venerable Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander and Jeep Wrangler, among others. In North America the Chrysler Group also sells Dodge branded vehicles, including the Dodge Charger, Dodge Ram Truck, and of course, the Dodge Viper, among others. Dodge vehicles will soon be available in Europe and additional international markets.

The Chrysler Group is a unit of DaimlerChrysler Group, one of the world's leading transportation services companies, which builds and markets passenger cars and commercial vehicles with the brands: Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, smart, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Freightliner, Setra, Sterling, Thomas Built and American LaFrance. DaimlerChrysler Financial Services is the third-largest automotive captive financial services provider in the world.

DaimlerChrysler Taiwan is a joint venture between Lei Shing Hong and DaimlerChrysler AG.
