50 New Dodge Trucks Arrive in Jackson, Miss., Delivering Hurricane Katrina Relief; Community Foundation Receives $50,000
* Durangos and Dakotas are part of a 100-vehicle convoy heading to hurricane-damaged areas * Employee-driven vehicles donated by the Chrysler Group are loaded with needed relief and rebuilding supplies * DaimlerChrysler has donated $4.4 million to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts
WHAT: Relief in the form of 50 new Dodge Rams, Durangos and Dakotas, loaded with much needed supplies, will be delivered to the State of Mississippi on Wednesday, Sept. 14. In addition, the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson will receive $50,000 to support displaced Gulf Coast residents now living in the area.
The vehicles are part of a 100-vehicle convoy that departed the Warren (Mich.) Truck Assembly Plant, home of the Dodge Dakota, on Sunday, Sept. 11 to join additional vehicles in St. Louis, home of the Dodge Ram, on Tuesday, Sept. 13 for a 1,000 mile journey to deliver support to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
When delivered, the vehicles will be loaded with chainsaws, gloves, shovels, sledge hammers and other equipment needed for the cleanup and reconstruction efforts as well as toiletries, baby goods, food and water. The remaining 50 vehicles will be given to Louisiana (40) and Alabama (10).
The vehicle donation is part of the $4.4 million in assistance provided by DaimlerChrysler to the American Red Cross and Gulf Coast communities damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
