Adaptive Xenon Bending Light Headlamps: an Innovation Adopted by Four German Brands
FRANKFURT, Germany, September 13 -- At the Frankfurt International Motor Show, Valeo announces that Audi, BMW, Opel and Volkswagen have decided to equip some of their models with a dynamic bending light system produced by Valeo.
This new generation of headlamps will make the new Audi Q7, BMW 1 Series, Opel Vectra and Volkswagen Passat even safer and more attractive, just as it has for the Citroën C4 and C5. In addition to performing the lighting function, these headlamps contribute to the innovative design of the cars.
This new lighting system, comprising motorized Xenon headlamps which swivel up to 15degrees from their frontal position, functions in both high and low beam mode. The electronic control unit processes data supplied by the speed and steering angle sensors in real time, and controls the rotation of each headlamp. The headlamps therefore automatically provide a beam of optimum intensity to light up curves and bends on the road ahead.
Record visibility for enhanced comfort and safety
The system allows drivers to become aware of road bends sooner and to anticipate their driving actions accordingly. By improving the visibility in bends by 90%, this innovation makes a significant contribution to road safety and driving comfort. A system for automatically adjusting the height of the beam also ensures maximum protection against the risk of dazzling oncoming drivers.
Initial surveys of motorists using this option reveal a very high rate of satisfaction and a repurchase intention rate of around 90%.
