More Than 1130 Ready for Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championship
Forbes Swansong

TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 12, 2005) - For the 11th and final time, Forbes
Field is set to host The Tire Rack(r) SCCA Solo National Championships.
And with more than 1130 competitors from the U.S. and Canada expected to
take part in the four-day event, Forbes' final swing is shaping up to be
one heck of a send-off.

In all, competitors from 47 states (Alaska, Delaware and Rhode Island
are the only ones missing) and four Canadian provinces will smoke their
cars' tires and glide through the pylons one more time at Forbes (before
the event moves to Heartland Park Topeka in 2006), hoping to earn the
right to be named as one of the 70 Solo National Championships who will
be crowned by Friday afternoon.

There are multi-time, national championship winners here, along with
bright faces who have never laid eyes upon Topeka at all. There are
those who expect to leave Kansas' capital with a championship, and those
who know they probably will not. But no matter what shakes out, each
and every one of the folks who made the trip to Topeka will play
important parts in forming the good-feeling, glad-you're-here
camaraderie canopy that SCCA Solo is famous for.

Sure, competition is the first priority. But take a step back and you
quickly realize that there has to be something more to this sport,
because while fun, it only lasts a little while. In fact, no one will
actually be competing for more than six minutes - the entire time they
are here.

So it has to be the people. It has to be the veterans who have been
coming to Solo National Championships well before Forbes and will
continue to do so well after the fact. It's the college kids who
started coming as toddlers and are now beating out their parents. It's
the couples who were raised as Soloists and now bring their children.

It's a family, and Forbes has been this family's home for more than a
decade.

Like families tend to do, this one has grown to the point that it will
move to a new home in 2006, to Heartland Park Topeka, where the it can
continue to evolve.

There is a banner from the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority just
outside the entrance gate that says "Thanks for the Memories!" It's a
little misleading because it's not quite over yet. There's still one
more Championship to go.

And with it, a lot more memories.

Action from The Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships begins each
day, starting Tuesday, at 8 a.m., and will conclude between 3:30-4 p.m.
All times are central.

In-depth schedules and other general event information can be found at
www.scca.com <http://www.scca.com/> , and daily recaps, along with full
results, will be posted as soon as they become available.
