SASSELLI CLOSES ON HARRIS WITH STOCKTON PAVEMENT WIN; CALIFORNIA FOCUS CONTINGENT READY FOR NATIONALS

INDIANAPOLIS – Eight drivers from the USAC California Ford Focus Midget Car
Series divisions will trek from the West Coast to the Midwest this weekend
for the inaugural Ford Focus National Championships.

Two of those drivers – Californians Alex Harris of Simi Valley and Chase
Barber of Morgan Hill – lead California Ford Focus points.

But Audra Sasselli is closing in on Harris in the Pavement Series. The
Fresno, Calif. native Sasselli – USAC’s all-time winningest female driver in
feature competition – added to her list over the weekend with a fifth career
victory, this coming in Sunday’s 50-lapper at Stockton, Calif.

Sasselli split time at the front of the field, passing Jace Meier on Lap 26
and leading the rest of the way in the No. 17 David Zoriki owned machine.
Behind her were Jenna Frazier, Chris Veach, Robbie Whitchurch and Benny
Moon. Sasselli vaulted ahead of Barber for second and is now only three
points behind Harris, who was placed ninth.

While Sasselli  – who closed to within 15 points of Harris with three races
to go on the calendar – won’t be competing in this weekend’s Ford Focus
National Championships, Harris and Barber will. The two have teamed to win
14 features in 2005, Harris having taken eight and Barber six. Harris has
also led 13 races this year for 256 laps.

Barber leads the Dirt series by 37 over Harris with one race to go in the
division.

Sasselli will try wrestling the hardtop lead from Harris on Sept. 24 at
Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. Three races remain in the
Pavement series.
