POINT LEADERS FALTER AT STOCKTON, EYE MADERA 10/1; RESCINO SCORES SURPRISE 100-LAP WIN AT STOCKTON

SEPTEMBER 12, 2005
Valvoline USAC Western Sprint Car point leaders Kody Swanson
and Tony Hunt were the first to exit Sunday's 100-lap "Fred Gerhardt Open
Wheel Classic" at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. Swanson fought oiling
problems, while Hunt was involved in a four-car tangle on the frontstretch.
The result is that Swanson's point lead dwindled and Hunt slipped to third
in the standings.

Swanson leads Mike Murgoitio by 17 points, Hunt by 33 and
Stockton fast qualifier Tim Barber by 34 going into an October 1 race at
Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

Nick Rescino Jr. of San Francisco, Calif. captured the
Stockton 100-lapper, leading the final 87 laps after passing Jason McCord
on lap 14. McCord led the first 13 laps but was third behind Michael
Trimble at the checkered flag. Jeff Gardner and Shauna Hogg rounded out the
"top-five" and Murgoitio finished eighth.
