RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
NASCAR and World 100 Action
Moorpark, Calif. - (September 12, 2005) The 35th annual World 100 took place
over the weekend at the world famous Eldora Speedway in New Weston, Ohio.
216 cars showed up in hopes of getting the $38,000 paycheck. Everyone
thought Shannon Babb was the winner of the race, until he rolled over the scales
and showed his car was 11 lbs. light.
The second place finisher, Dale McDowell, rolled over the scales and was
well within the weight limit and was declared the World 100 winner.
Three Ringers racers brought home top-10 finishes; 2004 World 100 winner
Chub Frank, third; Brian Birkhofer in fifth and Rick Eckert, sixth.
The NASCAR Nextel Cup “Chase for the Championship?? is now on and the
Ringers supported team of Penske Racing South has two drivers in the running.
Rusty Wallace was already locked in, but his fifth place finish in the Chevy
Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night moved
him up to third in the standings.
Ryan Newman sat one point out of being in the Chase heading into Richmond.
He needed to finish ahead of Jamie McMurray to be in the Chase for the second
year in a row.
McMurray was caught up in a wreck and Newman’s 12th place finish helped him
crack the top 10 to go for the Nextel Cup.
Their teammate Travis Kvapil has been out of Chase contention for a while,
but he posted an 11th place finish, just ahead of Newman.
Thursday night saw the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series under the lights at
Richmond in the Cheerios Betty Crocker 200.
Tracy Hines protected with UnderX by Ringers brought home a fifth place
finish in his ThorSport No. 13.
The Ringers supported team of Orleans Racing saw drivers Brendan Gaughan and
