100 New Dodge Trucks and SUVs Form Convoy to Deliver Hurricane Katrina Relief
* Dodge Rams built at the St. Louis assembly plant will be part of the 100-vehicle convoy leaving St. Louis on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to reach hurricane- damaged areas
* Employee-driven vehicles donated by the Chrysler Group will be loaded with needed relief and rebuilding supplies
* DaimlerChrysler has donated $4.4 million to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts
WHAT: A convoy of 100 Dodge Rams, Dakotas and Durangos, driven by UAW and salaried employees from the Chrysler Group will depart St. Louis as part of a 1,000 mile journey to deliver support to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The convoy started on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Mich., with 10 Dodge Dakotas. They will be joining 90 other Dodge trucks in St. Louis, home of the Dodge Ram, on Tuesday for the trip to Jackson, Miss. Fifty vehicles will remain in Jackson with 40 vehicles continuing on to Baton Rouge, La., and 10 vehicles going on to Montgomery, Ala.
Before departing St. Louis, Chrysler Group employees will load 20 vehicles with supplies including chainsaws, gloves, shovels, sledge hammers and other equipment needed for the clean up and reconstruction efforts. Vehicles will also be loaded with toiletries, baby goods, food and water.
The vehicle donation is part of the $4.4 million in assistance provided by DaimlerChrysler to the American Red Cross and Gulf Coast communities damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
