HERTA FINISHES 14TH IN XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR AT CHICAGO
JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 11, 2005) - Bryan Herta drove the XM Satellite Radio car to a 14th-place finish at
Sunday's Peak Antifreeze Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. Herta remains in eighth place in the Indy
Racing League® IndyCar® Series championship standings and is only 21 points out of seventh place.
Herta, who started sixth, managed to stay in the top 10 for the first half of the race and began to
move to the front when he got out of pit sequence with most of the other cars on track. However, with Herta
running in fourth position, the XM Satellite Radio crew had to make a pit stop under green-flag conditions
and that sent Herta to the back of the field.
As the final 25 laps played out, Herta moved back into the top 10 only to drop a few positions in the
late stages of the race and wound up in 14th place.
Herta's AGR teammate, Dan Wheldon, won his sixth race of the year, setting the record for most
wins in a season. Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr. finished second and third, respectively. Tomas
Scheckter finished fourth and AGR driver Tony Kanaan crossed the line fifth.
The IndyCar Series cars return to the track Sunday, Sept. 25, at Watkins Glen International. The
final road course event on the IndyCar Series schedule will be televised live by ABC beginning at 3:30 p.m.
(EDT). It can also be heard live by XM subscribers on Extreme XM, channel 152.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The XM Satellite Radio team tried something a little different on our strategy and it wasn't the right
thing to do because it put us in the back. Then, at the end it was just crazy. If you want to know what not to
do at the end of a race you should have just been following me because every lane I picked during those last
four laps turned out to be the wrong one."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It was a disappointing day for the XM Satellite Radio team. Maybe our strategy wasn't very good
today. Bryan drove a hard race, the car was good and the guys did a good job in the pits again, but it just
didn't pan out for us today like we wanted it to."
