STEELE AIMS FOR 2ND SILVER CROWN TITLE AT ELDORA HINES WINS
DuQUOIN'S "TED HORN 100"
SEPTEMBER 5, 2005
Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. took the next-to-last step toward a
possible repeat USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series championship Sunday
night, finishing ninth in the "Ted Horn 100" at DuQuoin, Ill. to extend his
point lead to 31 points over runnerup Josh Wise, who was 17th in the
100-mile race. Brian Tyler also remained mathematically in the title chase,
passing 18 cars to finish second at DuQuoin and now trails Steele by 60
points with 66 available in the series finale Sept. 23-24 at Rossburg, Ohio.
Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. won Sunday night's DuQuoin
classic, his fourth career series win and his first on dirt. Driving the
Indiana Underground Construction Beast/Chevy, Hines ran down early leader
Tyler Walker on lap 50 and led the rest of the way to post the win. Tyler
was second, followed by pole winner Walker, Jon Stanbrough and Dave Darland.
Wise encountered problems with his Tony Stewart Racing entry
and needed to "borrow" Ryan Durst's machine to compete in the 100-mile
race. Jay Drake, Wise's Tony Stewart Racing teammate, also encountered
problems and was unable to start the race.
The series finale is set for Sept. 23-24 as part of the annual
"4-Crown Nationals" at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
