Troy continues to shine at Indy; Jeg looks to make noise

For the second day in a row, Troy Coughlin was the star of the family as he
drove his Jeg's Mail Order Shelby Mustang to an opening round win in the AMS
Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The event is
part of the festivities surrounding the 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals,
where Troy's younger brother Jeg successfully qualified for a very tough Pro
Stock field.

After moving up to sixth place on the qualifying sheet earlier in the day
with a run of 6.147 at 231.36 mph, Troy roared past first-round opponent Troy
Critchley with a 6.148 at 231.04 mph to Critchley's 6.196 at 227.38 mph. The
elapsed times actually meant nothing as Critchley left early, lighting the
red-light by -.006 seconds. The remaining rounds will be contested Monday.

"We did everything we set out to do today," Troy said. "We improved our
qualifying position and we won our opening round. We're in Indy. You want to be
racing on Monday, on Labor Day, that's what it's all about.

"We've got a great racecar. It's fast and quick and I know we have a real
good chance of winning the next round, whoever we race. If I do my job as a
driver, we should be able to beat anybody right now. That's how excited we are
about this team."

Jeg remained consistent Sunday in his Jeg's Mail Order Dodge Stratus R/T,
posting a 6.75 in the morning and a 6.77 in the afternoon heat. But like most
of the other drivers in the Pro Stock field he didn't find a way to improve on
his previously posted time of 6.752 at 203.71 mph. He will now start race
day as the No. 14 qualifier.

The good news is twofold. First, Jeg made the field of the most important
race of the year. Secondly, he's run within three hundredths of a second of his
first-round opponent Kurt Johnson, who qualified third with a 6.728 at
205.35 mph.

"The field is extremely tight top-to-bottom so it's exciting from a driver's
standpoint," Jeg said. "If we had been just three hundredths of a second
quicker we would be the No. 2 qualifier. Any time it's that close you know you
can make up the difference at the starting line. To me, it's anyone's race. As
a driver you wouldn't want it any other way.

"Indy is all about seeing who the best driver in the country is each year.
It's been like that since the beginning of time so I'm glad this year won't be
any different. We have a good, consistent racecar and we'll race the best we
can and see what happens."
