Porsche, Henzler on Top After SCCA SPEED GT Practice at Mosport
CANADA (Sept. 2, 2005) - Porsche entered the Labour Day Weekend Grand Prix of Mosport with a seven-point advantage over Cadillac in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Manufacturers' Championship Presented by RACER Magazine, and took the first swing Friday as driver Wolf Henzler snapped off the fastest practice time of the day and finished just ahead of two Cadillacs at Mosport International Raceway. Henzler, of Nurtingen, Germany, spent most of the two practice sessions hovering in the 4th-7th positions in his No. 55 Applied Materials/Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 Cup. However, as the final session drew to a close, Henzler ripped off a 1:24.072 (105.295 mph), which moved him ahead of both Ron Fellows, of Mississauga, Ont., (No. 12 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose Cadillac CTS-V) who was just behind with a morning run of 1:24.085 (105.279 mph); and Max Papis, of Miami, Fla., (No. 16 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose Cadillac CTS-V) who was only 0.003-sec. off Fellows' pace during the morning session with a 1:24.088 (105.275). As the top three were separated by just 0.016-sec., Henzler said it shocked him that he was the leader. "To be honest, I was very surprised," Henzler said. "I thought maybe the other drivers had slowed down a little bit, but I drove 100 percent. We changed some tires and the setup was very good, so the team did a good job, and I hope I'm able to qualify tomorrow morning in the top five." Robin Liddell, of Edinburgh, Scotland, turned in a 1:24.188 (105.200 mph) in the No. 66 PFAFF/AXA Financial Porsche 911 Cup on the 2.459-mile, 10-turn track - good enough for fourth. Leighton Reese, of Minnetonka, Minn., made sure Corvette wasn't left out of the top five as he posted a 1:24.210 (105.123 mph) in his No. 6 Banner Engineering Corvette C6. The Round 10 SPEED GT race in Bowmanville, Ont., part of the Labour Day Weekend Grand Prix of Mosport, is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m., with qualifying set for 11:30 a.m. All times are Eastern.
