Hiring Continues at Union Pacific

Opportunities Available for Entry-Level and Experienced Applicants

OMAHA, Neb., Aug. 31 -- As the nation marks Labor Day and celebrates the American worker, Union Pacific is helping to put more Americans to work.

Union Pacific continues to hire and recruit new employees to keep consumer products, automobiles, energy supplies and other goods moving on the nation's rail system. The railroad has an ongoing need for new employees to meet growing demand for its services, and to replace employees retiring in coming years.

"Over the next decade, nearly 40 percent of our employees will reach retirement age," said Barb Schaefer, senior vice president -- Human Resources. "While we don't expect them all to take retirement the minute they are qualified, we do want to add employees now so they will have the opportunity to learn and gain the experience needed to maintain the strong standards set by our current workforce."

Union Pacific expects to hire several thousand employees each year for the next five years. Opportunities are available in all areas of the company, from entry-level and skilled positions to openings within the railroad's management training program.

"We offer excellent pay and benefits, and many opportunities for career advancement," Schaefer said. "Whether just starting a career or considering a change, we have attractive job opportunities across our system."

To learn more about all employment opportunities and to apply for positions, applicants should visit Union Pacific's Web site at www.up.com and click on the "Jobs at UP" section. From there, they should click on "Union Pacific Railroad: View Positions." From this Web page, applicants can search the database for open positions and locations of interest. Applications must be completed and submitted online for the job at the specific location of interest.

Those without access to computers should visit their local job service, public library or copy center. Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years of age, and those who receive a job offer are required to successfully complete a medical exam, drug test and background investigation. Other qualifications for these jobs are listed on the Web site.
