Plenty of Activities Planned for Infineon Technologies

Cougar Mountain Classic Cycling Weekend

SONOMA, Calif. (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) - The excitement won't be limited to the various cycling disciplines featured at the Infineon Technologies Cougar Mountain Classic at Infineon Raceway, Sept. 9-11.

Whether it's a 'slowride' around the twisting road course, a bicycle rodeo for young children, a classic swap meet, a ½ road, ½ cross country trail run, or a vintage bicycle concourse, there will be something for everyone during the action-packed weekend, which enters its second year in the Sonoma Valley (it debuted in 2004 as the California Outdoor Sports Championships).

For children, there are two events geared specifically for them on Sunday, Sept. 11:

*	Shimano Kids Bicycle Rodeo: This event, which will take place from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., will showcase courses designed to keep children safe when riding bicycles. The rodeo is open to all children 8 and under.
*	Shimano Youth Races: These are designed for children 14-and-under who wish to get their first taste of racing. Pro athletes will be on hand to provide tips to the young riders, who will compete in 10-15 minute races. The rides are free!

For those who have never traversed the serpentine road course, there's the Supercuts Road Slowride, which takes place on Saturday, Sept. 10, at noon. Members of professional race teams and legendary frame builders will also take part in this casual ride around the raceway. Entry fee is $10 and children 12-and-under ride for free when accompanied by an adult.

There will also be a Swap Classic and a Vintage Bicycle Concourse during the event weekend. The Swap Classic will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and will feature great bicycle bargains for the right shopper. This Swap Classic has been scheduled perfectly at the end of the cycling season as teams unload some of their slightly used items.

The Vintage Bicycle Concourse, which will be on display on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., will be a memorable step back in time as some of the finest bicycles ever to roll across the Alps of France or across the Colorado Rockies, among other great spots, will be featured. Awards will be given for Best Mountain Bike, Best Road Bike and the winner of Best in Show will be given a one-of-a-kind Brian Baylis creation. Some of the names expected are Ritchey, Sinyard, Fisher, Breeze and Cunningham.

Legendary custom frame builder Bernie Mikkelsen will also be on-hand at the concourse and will craft a classic steel, external-lugged frame during the event. He will begin his work on Friday and should be done by Sunday afternoon. This retro-new Euro Classic signature bicycle will be raffled off on Sunday of race weekend, with proceeds going to charity.

This year the event hosts a 15K Road/Off-Road SuperRun which takes runners on a 9-10 mile run, beginning on the smooth, paved roadway of Infineon Raceway (4 miles) and then moves out onto cross country hills, fire roads and pristine singletrack (five miles) and then finishes with one-half mile of asphalt.
