Enterprise Rent-a-Car Helps Reduce Litter; Encourages Customers to Bag Their Trash

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Aug. 3, 20051, 2005--To kick off the end of the busy summer travel season, and to remind motorists about the importance of maintaining a clean, litter-free environment, Enterprise Rent-A-Car will place thousands of litter bags in their rental cars over the Labor Day holiday.

Enterprise is partnering with the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) during its "Don't Trash California" campaign, a 22 month statewide effort to reduce litter on the freeways and highways.

"It's important to all of us to raise the level of awareness about the impact of highway litter on the environment," said Greg Stubblefield, president of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, California. "This is a great time to have a conversation about this important issue with children who may be traveling by car during the final days of the summer."

Beginning Labor Day weekend, brightly colored trash bags will be distributed at rental locations in Sacramento, San Francisco, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego. It's hoped the bags will serve to remind motorists to keep their litter inside the trash receptacle instead of on the road.

Caltrans workers pick up an average of 143,000 cubic pounds of litter from California roadways each year, including food cartons, cigarette butts and soda cans. In fact, the annual cost to pick up litter in California exceeds $40 million.

Enterprise will distribute approximately 30,000 litter bags during the "Don't Trash California" campaign.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car operates more than 800,000 rental and fleet services vehicles worldwide and has annual revenues of more than $7.4 billion. Its California operation, with nearly 800 locations, is the company's largest region and the leader in its market. Last year, Enterprise opened more than 500 new locations, increasing its total locations to more than 6,000. Enterprise is currently number 16 on the Forbes "500 Largest Private Companies in America" list. For more information about Enterprise, visit www.enterprise.com.
