What's in a Name? $50,000 if That Name Is Southern Ford!
Local Car Dealer Makes Unique Offer to Local TV and Radio Personalities
HOUSTON, Aug. 30 -- The general manager of Houston's newest Ford Superstore is offering $50,000 to any full time radio or television personality who will legally change his or her name to "Southern Ford" and use that name in their daily broadcasts. Southern Ford's Mike Baches is banking that an eligible broadcaster will take him up on the offer and help spread the word about the grand opening of Southern Ford.
"Although Southern Ford will be in the business of offering the best deals in town," observes Baches, "I don't see any reason why our name wouldn't be a suitable handle for a DJ, sportscaster, or weatherman. It sounds like a good Texas name, don't you think?"
The offer stipulates that the personality must be a full time host, co-host, or regular reporter with weekday exposure on a full power, English language radio or television station, and mandates that payment be disbursed over a two year period, in case the personality's employment is terminated.
Baches believes that his proposal provides reciprocal benefit beyond the cash reward.
"We realize that every time he says his name, people will think about us," offers Baches, "but every time we advertise our name, people will think about him, too. Sounds like a fair deal to me."
Southern Ford's new Superstore is located at 17717 Highway 288 South, just south of 518. The dealership is owned by Joseph and Arlene Catania.
THE DEAL: 1. The offer is made to any full time host, co-host, sportscaster, or weatherman who enjoys regular weekday exposure on a full power, English language radio or television station whose signal covers the Houston-Galveston metro area. Traffic reporters, movie critics, and other episodic, short-form reporters are excluded. 2. Payment will be made at the rate of $2000 per month for a period of two years and one month, provided that the broadcaster's employment status and on air profile are not substantially changed. 3. The broadcaster must refer to himself as "Southern Ford" in the same manner as he or she would customarily identify themselves on the air and show proof of their legal name change to Southern Ford. 4. During the term of the contract, the broadcaster must not endorse or provide advertising or promotional support for any other car dealer in the Houston-Galveston metro area. 5. Southern Ford reserves to right to conduct background checks on all potential candidates.
