FORMER INDYCAR MECHANIC WARD, DRC POOL TALENTS TO CONSTRUCT SILVER CROWN CAR
INDIANAPOLIS – Award-winning California racecar designer John Ward and
successful Indiana car builder Joe Devin have announced a combined effort to
produce one of the first 2006 USAC Silver Crown cars.
Gearing up for USAC’s Silver Crown Series expansion to larger ovals next
year, the duo will consult on the design and construction of the car, which
will be built in the DRC Chassis shops in Indianapolis.
Ward’s expertise is well-known, having earned the prestigious Louis
Schwitzer Award at the Indianapolis 500 for his design of the 1981 Eagle
race car for Dan Gurney’s All-American Racers team. He has also been
instrumental in designing winning cars for Patrick Racing and Toyota
Motorsports. Ward presently serves as a consulting design engineer for the
Indy Racing League’s Fernandez Racing, which recorded victories in 2004 at
Chicagoland, Kentucky and California Speedways and earlier this month at
Kentucky.
“I love Sprint cars and open-wheel racing and have for many years,” Ward
said. “I’m excited to finally be involved in a meaningful way. I know DRC
produces quality cars and my experience at the large ovals should create a
formidable combination.”
Devin has been fabricating open-wheel race cars for 10 years prior to
opening DRC Chassis in 2002. DRC racecars have compiled a formidable record,
winning some of the biggest Sprint car races in America.
Orders are now being accepted for the DRC/Ward chassis. Prospective buyers
or interested parties can reach DRC at (317) 481-1626.
