SWANSON, WYSONG LEAD SPRINTS TO RMR MONDAY BARBER WINS 50-LAP
STOCKTON MAIN EVENT
AUGUST 29, 2005
Kody Swanson's Valvoline/USAC Western Sprint Car Series point
lead stands at 45 points going into next Monday night's race at Rocky
Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. His lead expanded last Saturday
night as a result of the race held at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.
Jimmy Wysong continues to lead the Young Automotive Group
Rocky Mountain Sprint Car standings entering Monday's event at Salt Lake
City, 32 points ahead of defending series champion Jim Waters.
Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. won the Stockton
50-lapper, which was interrupted early by an accident involving defending
series champion Tony Hunt, who escaped serious injury. Hunt's throttle
stuck entering turn one and his car mounted the wall, then exited the oval.
He was treated for a sore tailbone and released.
Barber passed Bob Beck on lap 11 and led the rest of the way
in his Bos Sheet Metal/Riverside Motorsports Park Eagle/Chevy. Michael
Trimble was second followed by Jeff Gardner, Swanson and Cody Veenstra. The
victory left Barber third in points, only four behind Hunt and just seven
ahead of Mike Murgoitio.
Monday's race at Salt Lake City offers points toward both the
USAC Valvoline Western and the Young Automotive Group Rocky Mountain Sprint
Car Championships.
