BOHR, SNYDER LEAD TOP QUALIFIERS AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY PARK'S 

NHRA LUCAS OIL EVENT

            BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In the final rounds of qualifying at Beech
Bend Raceway Park's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Jeff Bohr drove
his Top Alcohol Dragster to the No. 1 qualifying spot and Mick Snyder set
the pace in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Today was the first full day of racing
action at Beech Bend Raceway Park.  Qualifying and time trials were put on
hold Friday for the nearly 600 competitors at the event.

            Bohr, a Plymouth, Mich., resident, ran 5.588 seconds at 255.73
mph in today's first qualifying session and was able stay on top through the
second session to earn his first No. 1 qualifier this season.  The second
place qualifier is Jeff Wilson of Winfield, Mo., who is the defending event
champion.  Wilson ran 5.596 seconds at 254.28 mph in the opening round
today.

            Snyder, the division's reigning Top Alcohol Funny Car champion
from Demotte, Ind., outran the field with a 5.830-second, 245.49 mph effort
in his opening run.  The No. 2 qualifier, Chuck Cheeseman of Galena, Ohio,
jumped from the fourth spot with a 5.949-second, 245.94 mph run in the
second session.  Snyder is also the defending event champion.  He beat Marty
Thacker of Robinson, Ill., in the final last year.

            Glen Treadwell, Sorrento, Fla., is the top qualifier in Comp
Eliminator and a pair of Dayton, Ohio, residents, Dave Layer and Don Holmes,
head up Super Stock and Stock Eliminator, respectively.  Tom Stultz, Terre
Haute, Ind., has the pole in Top Sportsman.

            In a race within a race, Tim Kirman won the VP Racing Fuels Top
Sportsman Shootout for the second consecutive year.

Racing continues Sunday at Beech Bend Raceway Park.  Gates open at 8 a.m.
and eliminations start at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny
Car are scheduled to run first round at 1 p.m.
