FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOLLINGSWORTH,

BARROW & DUBOIS WIN

BLOOMINGTON, IN (AUGUST 27, 2005) - Last night was Racer Appreciation Night for the sprint car racers. Not only was there a $2000 check available for the feature winner; but it was the last points night for the sprint cars. However, Kevin Briscoe arrived at the track with a 41 point lead in the points so it was almost certain that he would win his fourth Bloomington Speedway sprint car championship. About all he had to do was sign in; and he would tie Derek Scheffel as a four time sprint car champion.

The weatherman did his part to make the evening interesting too. All day the sun was shining and there was a fairly strong breeze wafting across the red clay. As late afternoon approached, Mike Miles inspected his handiwork; and he saw that the sun and the breeze were drying the track. The track obviously needed more moisture. Mike mounted his big blue water truck and proceeded to give the track a good soaking. Unfortunately, the sun went behind the clouds to stay and the wind died down. Mike and his staff did their best to run the track in to get it to the desired moisture level. It wasn't too bad; but it wasn't up to Mike's usual standards either.

During the heat races light rain halted the action briefly; but the rains quit and the racing continued without further interruption.

SPRINT CARS -

There were several surprises among among the sprint cars that rolled off of the trailers to compete for the $2000 first prize money that was up for grabs last night. Kevin Briscoe would not be in the familiar white number five. He would be in a white car; and it would have a five on it; but it would be the Brad and Steve Fox owned number 53. It's hard to imagine a car being a suitable replacement for the Dick Briscoe owned car; but the 53 has been a worthy mount several times this season.

For some reason, Tony Fox decided to climb into his #56 himself. As Tony prepared to climb into the car, Jared assisted him with a knowing smile. Tony had not been in a sprint car for 25 years. Then he was 18 years old. While his results weren't spectacular, his performance was not bad considering his 25 year absence from the cockpit. He was careful to stay out of the way of the faster cars. And, as a car owner, he was no doubt satisfied that the car would roll back on the trailer without the benefit of a wrecker.

Kerry Kinser of Bloomington made his first appearance on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway. He finished eighth in his heat race and barely missed a transfer to the feature from the "B" feature.

Dave Peperak turned in a good performance winning his heat race for the second week in a row. Kenny Carmichael, Jr. and Ty Deckard won the other two heat races.

Danny Holtsclaw and Kent Christian started side by side on the front row of the feature. Christian chased Holtsclaw for all twelve laps of the "B" feature. Mitch Cunningham, Chris Babcock, and Tom Busch won the other three berths to the feature.

Shane Hollingsworth and Kent Christian started at the front of the feature. When the green flag dropped, Hollingsworth charged into the lead and led all 25 laps. Kent Christian fell in behind Hollingsworth and Briscoe gave chase in third place. On the 14th circuit, Briscoe slipped past Christian to take second. Kevin closed in on Hollingsworth; but he couldn't get past him and had to settle for second. Christian held on to finish third. Kenny Carmichael came home fourth and locked up second place in the points. Bobby Stines, Kevin Besecker, Brent Beauchamp, Brad Sweet, Mitch Cunningham, and Chris Babcock rounded out the top ten.

Barrow Holds Off Boknecht For O'Neal Wood Products/Monroe County Pizza Dept Modified Win -

O'Neal Wood Products/Monroe County Pizza Dept modified racers had only one more points night after last night. Jesse Cramer started the evening with a 32 point lead over Gary Barrow in the points. Barrow gained some ground on Cramer who finished third in last night's feature; but that wasn't nearly enough to put him in the points lead. However, it might have been enough to give him a little better starting point for September 16 competition.

Shelby Miles came home fourth trailed by Adam Sasser, Jared Bailey, Ray Humprey, Josh Eads, Jeff Bland, Jr., and Judas Bowling.

In preliminary action, Matt Boknecht, Gary Barrow, and Jesse Cramer. Rodney Harris Jr. took the "B" feature; and Barrow took the Dash.

Ben DuBois Takes Third Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock Feature of the Season -

When the Tire and Wheel Center Super Stock action got under way last night, Kevin Arthur, Ben DuBois, and Greg Amick won their heat races.

Gerald Todd led the "B" feature flag to flag while Troy Clark came from his eighth place starting position to take second. Terry Arthur finished third; and Matt Cummings started dead last and finished fourth. Jamie Pardue earned the final ticket to the feature.

Ben DuBois won the dash to earn the right to start the feature on the pole while Kevin Arthure and Greg Amick finished second and third respectively.

When the Tire & Wheel Center super stocks rolled off of the trailers last night, only 36 points separated the top four in the points. In spite of the fact that Ben had already won two features this season, he was in fourth place. While his third feature win was not enough to give him the points lead, it should have been enough to move him up to third or maybe even second.

Jeremy Hines came home second; but that would not have been enough to give him the points lead. over Danny Harris who came home fifth.

Winston Howe and Kevin Arthurs finished third and fourth respectively.
