Eight Commercial Truck Fleets Select Iteris Technology; Growing Number of Commercial Truck Fleets Specify Lane Departure Warning Technology
ANAHEIM, Calif.--Aug. 2, 20055, 2005--Iteris Inc. (AMEX:ITI), the leader in the development of vision-based technology that enhances driver safety, today announced that its Lane Departure Warning (LDW) technology will be installed on new trucks purchased by eight more commercial truck fleets across the country. Each of the eight fleets has purchased or ordered new trucks with specifications that include the installation of Iteris' LDW system.Arrow Trucking Inc., with headquarters in Tulsa, Okla., has a fleet of 1,500 trucks and is one of the country's largest flatbed motor carriers. After successfully testing several LDW units, Arrow purchased 25 additional units for installation and currently has plans to specify LDW on all new trucks ordered.
Air Liquide is the world leader in industrial and medical gases and related services with U.S. headquarters in Houston. Air Liquide has ordered nearly 180 Freightliner trucks with LDW specified, some of which have already been deployed. Foodliner, based in Dubuque, Iowa, is part of the McCoy group and one of the largest carriers in the bulk-food industry. Foodliner will install the LDW systems in over 200 new trucks as part of an order that runs through 2006.
Hill Bros, a truckload carrier based in Omaha, Neb., with service to 48 states and Canada, has ordered 140 new Kenworth tractors that will be equipped with LDW. Warren Trucking Company Inc., an LTL carrier based in Martinsville, Va., that has been providing quality new furniture transportation for over 71 years, has ordered 75 new Freightliner trucks with LDW.
Hercules Forwarding, in Hickory Hills, Ill., a Less-Than-Truckload carrier specializing in U.S. and Canada shipments, has purchased aftermarket units for nearly 20 percent of its fleet and intends to specify LDW on all new trucks purchased.
CHS Inc., a diversified energy, grains and foods company based in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., with one of the nation's largest private truck fleets, will have more than 40 units deployed by the end of 2005. Most units have been ordered on new Freightliner trucks. CHS also plans to retrofit additional trucks in the future.
The eighth is a private fleet that operates more than 400 company-owned tractors. The fleet has purchased 145 new trucks with LDW to be installed at the Sterling modification center in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
This brings the total number of fleets specifying Iteris LDW technology to 16 nationwide, with 42 more fleets currently conducting field tests.
"Iteris is thrilled to see our LDW technology gaining so much traction in this market," said Bill Patrolia, director of truck sales for Iteris. "More and more fleets are recognizing the many benefits of installing this advanced technology on their trucks not only for enhanced safety, but also for driver satisfaction."
Iteris' LDW System is the only product of its kind to be available as an OEM option on commercial trucks in the U.S. The technology is currently in use on over 10,000 commercial trucks in the U.S. and Europe, with more than a billion miles traveled. In fact, two major commercial truck companies, Cargo Transporters, Claremont, N.C., and Logex of Orange, Calif., recently reported that after two years of using LDW and a combined 60 million miles of driving, both companies have had zero lane departure-related accidents.
The LDW system is designed to prevent sideswipe, run-off-road and inadvertent lane change accidents that are usually caused by drowsiness, fatigue or distraction. The system uses a windshield-mounted camera that tracks lane markings using image recognition software and monitors the relative position of the truck within the lane. If the truck inadvertently crosses the lane markings, the system automatically emits a distinctive rumble strip sound alerting the driver to make a correction.
