LEXINGTON, Oh., August 24, 2005 - Shane Lewis plans to use this week's EMCO
Gears Classic to help return the Ohio-based Southard Motorsports team to its
early season success. The Jupiter, Florida-resident is in his second season
driving in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series for the Powell,
Ohio-based team. Lewis made the most out of an early season change to the
Riley chassis for the BMW-powered PAP-Parts/ OZEXE Daytona Prototype (DP)
owned by Steve Southard (Powell, Oh.). The multi-time winner of Grand
American-sanctioned events led at Fontana's California Speedway and earned
the SunTrust Improve Your Position Award at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the
first half of the season. 

 

Lewis sees this weekend's 400 kilometer Rolex Series feature as an ideal
candidate to help bring the team back to the front of the grid. The
2.258-mile track has long been a favorite of Lewis who has won at the track
in the past. 

 

"This is the team's home track and I want to do well here," commented Lewis.
"I know how to win races at Mid-Ohio. The crew has been working very hard on
the car and I have a great team behind me. Since we have not been able to
test here or at any track this season, it means we have to work extra hard
at every race.  The pressure is on us to do well here. This is one of those
tracks that it can all come together at and everybody is working hard to
make sure it does. Nothing would be better than to give Steve and Martha
[Southard] their first Grand American victory at their home track. I sure
wouldn't mind getting my first Rolex win here too!"

 

The race will be broadcast on SPEED Channel at Noon on August 28th. Live
timing and scoring can be found at  <http://www.grandamerican.com/>
www.GrandAmerican.com beginning with Friday's first practice (9:30 AM EDT)
and including qualifying at 4:30 PM later that day. The race will take the
green flag at 5:30 PM, Saturday, August 27th.
