Polycarbon Wins Federal Mogul Supplier of the Year Award for Third Consecutive Year

VALENCIA, Calif., Aug. 24, 2005 -- SGL Technic Inc. Polycarbon Division, an affiliate of the German based SGL Carbon Group , announced today that it has been awarded "Supplier of the Year" designation by Federal-Mogul Corporation, Southfield, Michigan. This is the third consecutive year that SGL Polycarbon has earned this prestigious award -- an accomplishment attained by SGL and only one other company in Federal-Mogul's award history. 1,500 suppliers were eligible to be considered based on the total purchasing volume. Only 6 of the 1,500 suppliers have excelled in all three areas -- 100% on-time delivery, zero defects, and cost saving recommendations -- thereby attaining "Supplier of the Year" status.

In presenting the award, Jeffrey Cwiek, Purchasing Manager for Federal-Mogul, cited SGL Polycarbon's sustained record of outstanding performance in the areas of: product quality, 100% on-time delivery, customer service and cost saving recommendations. SGL Polycarbon achieved certified supplier status several years ago by manufacturing and shipping consistently high quality expanded graphite sealing materials that require no incoming receipt inspection. For years, Polycarbon has supplied aftermarket gasket material to Federal-Mogul's Skokie, Illinois facility and products for a large OE engine head gasket program at Athens, Alabama.

Accepting the award on behalf of the employees of Polycarbon, Division, President Mark Kokosinski thanked Federal-Mogul for this award, and especially the long-standing business relationship that the two organizations have developed throughout the past decades. Kokosinski also highlighted the accomplishments of the entire Polycarbon team -- including people based at Valencia, the manufacturing facility in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and the distribution center in Troy, Michigan -- as absolutely critical to the success of the business. "Without the wholehearted commitment of each employee, we would not have been able to provide the products and services that helped Federal-Mogul's business succeed," said Kokosinski. Adding to the recognition, Dr. Jan Verdenhalven, Managing Director of SGL Technologies, sent a message of congratulations from SGL's Meitingen, Germany office thanking Federal-Mogul for the award and praising the "spirit of cooperation and dedication evident throughout the Polycarbon organization."

Polycarbon belongs to the SGL Carbon Group and is part of the SGL Technologies Business Area. Headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, SGL Carbon is the world's largest supplier of carbon and graphite products with approx. 5,100 employees, and plants and offices in 14 countries. Worldwide sales for SGL Carbon Group in 2004 totaled 926.2 million euro.
